Common Abbreviated Terms

Makita tools are sold through authorized Makita distributors. They are established throughout the United

States with well-balanced inventories to assure you fast delivery; and are staffed with experienced

personnel to assist you in selecting the proper tools for your specific requirements.

For your safety and best optimum tool performance, be sure to read, understand, and follow all the safety

and operating procedures listed in the instruction manual before connecting your tool to a power source.

An instruction manual is furnished with every Makita tool. If yours is lost, stay safe! Contact the nearest

Makita Sales Office/Distribution Center for a replacement, or visit

.

Most Makita tools do not require 3-prong “grounded” plugs because they are “DOUBLE INSULATED”.

Double insulated tools protect the user by two independent insulation systems. These systems shield

the electric motor components from the outer motor housing and gripping areas of the tools. All Double

Insulated Makita power tools are denoted by the double square safety mark.

Amp Hour:

(Ah) The standard measure of capacity for a rechargeable battery. The quantity of electricity

that passes through a circuit in one hour when the rate of flow is one ampere.

Watt Hour:

The practical unit of energy capacity. Equal to the battery voltage multiplied by the amp

hours of that battery.

Maximum Watts Out:

An accurate unit measurement of power from an electric motor. One watt equals

the amount of power required to maintain a current of one ampere at a pressure of one volt.

Vibration:

(m/s2) measurements are made in the direction of feed force and with three axes of a

basicentric co-ordinate system. Measurements shall be carried out at a point halfway along the length

of the handles or where an operator normally holds the tool. If the placing of the switch actuator makes

this impossible then the accelerometer is placed as close as possible to the hand between the thumb

and the index finger.

Joules:

(J) The basic unit measuring impact energy. Equal to the amount of work done by force of one

Newton acting through a distance of one meter in the direction of the force.

Newton Meters:

(N•m) A unit of the meter-kilogram-second system equal to the energy expended, or

work done, by a force of one newton acting through a distance of one meter and equal to one joule. N•m

—› ft.lbs., multiply by .7380.

EPTA Standard for Stated Net Weight Values:

Makita Industrial Power Tools are weighed in accordance

to standards set by the European Power Tool Association (EPTA). In catalogs, the attribute is designated

as weight without the cord, and for cordless products as weight including batteries, unless otherwise

noted.

The following abbreviations are used throughout this catalog:

Any Makita tool that bears the UL or CSAus mark

has been evaluated by Underwriters Laboratories,

Inc. or the Canadian Standards Association, (NRTL

approved) to meet the OSHA requirements.

Makita U.S.A., Inc., is an associate member of
